Flug über die Berge mit Restube

Flying with RESTUBE Safety Buoy

Follow these rules and you can take the Safety Buoy with you on the plane

Are you planning a trip by plane and want to take your RESTUBE Safety Buoy with you? No problem! The Safety Buoy can be taken on the plane. However, there are a few rules to follow. We have compiled all the information you need to make sure your Safety Buoy arrives safely at its destination.

Safety Buoy and CO2 cartridges in the luggage

The original RESTUBE CO2 CARTRIDGES contain 16g or 10.9g CO2 and are pressurized. Therefore, they are considered “dangerous goods” in air transport. According to the IATA (International Air Transport Association) and the LBA (German Federal Aviation Authority), up to two CO2 CARTRIDGES may be carried in combination with the Safety Buoy. Ultimately, however, the airline and the pilot decide whether the cartridges are allowed or not. The Safety Buoy itself - without its CO2 CARTRIDGES - can be carried on an aircraft without restrictions or special transport requirements

More and more stores around the world are offering RESTUBE Safety Buoys. Feel free to write us your travel destination and we can inform you if there is a dealer near you. You can reach us at hello@restube.com.

Generally, according to IATA/LBA, up to two CO2 CARTRIDGES per Safety Buoy are permitted. (Note: As RESTUBE Safety Buoy is not a separate category, the regulations for lifejackets apply, which are ‘for 2 applications’). According to the TSA (which applies to the USA) cartridges may not be transported without the accompanying restube.

This rule applies to all types of air transport:
- Hand luggage
- Worn on your person

Although this is an official regulation, not all ground staff are aware of it. To ensure that flying with cartridges works for you, we have summarized the most important rules for you here. Read the instructions carefully and follow them to improve your chances of success. As airport staff may have received different training, we recommend carrying the Safety Buoy in your hand luggage rather than your checked luggage. This will allow you to react in case of doubt. Please note that we cannot make a general recommendation on this matter.

Important steps to be allowed to take the Safety Buoy and cartridges onto the aircraft

1. Contact the airline before departure

Declare your Safety Buoy, including the number of CO₂ cartridge, to the airline by phone. Either directly after booking or at least 48h before departure. Ask the airline for a written confirmation (e.g. by e-mail) and carry a copy with you.

2. Transport the Safety Buoy and the CO₂ cartridge separately

Carefully open the flap and take the buoy out of the bag without releasing it. Then unscrew the CO₂ cartridge from the Safety Buoy.

3. Store CO₂ cartridge, information, and your Safety Buoy with unscrewed cartridge together in a transparent bag

According to IATA, up to two CO₂ cartridge per Safety Buoy may be carried on an aircraft. Keep the CO₂ cartridge with the information flyer “Flying with Restube” – you will find it in every RESTUBE package and also here (RESTUBE BEACH 10,9g CARTRIDGES or all other Safety Buoy with 16g CARTRIDGES) - as well as the information from the LBA or TSA in a plastic bag with a seal that is clearly visible. Also include the confirmation from the airline.

4. Carry the CO₂ cartridges in your hand luggage

We recommend that you carry the safety buoy, including the CO₂ cartridge, exclusively in your hand luggage and not in your checked luggage. This way, you can explain the product to security personnel if necessary. The safety buoy can also be carried in your checked luggage without CO₂ cartridges.
